Fabulous Forgetful Friends

I was one of several people to creatively work with the Fabulous Forgetful Friends (2016-2017) producing work for the Beyond Dementia Exhibition at The Whitworth from 28th July – 23rd December 2017.

This group shared their own special objects. We then explored a variety of materials including vintage newspapers, dictionary pages, maps and doll shoes. My own assemblage artworks were also presented as inspiration.

For exhibition, the participants’ assemblage tiles were connected by hopeful words connecting people, connecting lives.

Kate introduced me and my Mum to assemblage. We created a lovely tribute to my late father by making a box that contains items of importance to him e.g. watches, badges, combs, tools, photographs etc. The box is a point of interest and stimulation for most, but importantly for my Mum. It provokes memories which helps her dementia and gives us both a focus and conversational piece. A wonderful experience-thank you Kate.
