Lucky 13 Beach Hut

Wyre Borough Council

One of three artists commissioned to do a temporary installation within a beach hut in Cleveleys. The beach huts were open to the public every day during the summer 2002. I interviewed people at a local care facility about their memories about the sea and incorporated it into the installation.

Kate’s attention to detail has no equal -she is meticulous. Under every object, you could find a new story, game or rhyme. The beach hut was not just an artwork to look at and experience but also thoroughly explore.

Visitors to the beach huts loved the work and came back over several visits to look again and find things they had missed.

Kate’s work is authentic whilst drawing on elements of the surreal. She always uses research and understanding to start her ideas and has a thirst for knowledge that is unquenchable!
