I was part of the UCLan research team working with East Meets West, a group providing services for refugee women and pre-school children in Lancaster. This innovative project has focused on exploring shared experiences of becoming a mother and different aspects of motherhood amplifying voices that are seldom heard.
As photographer, my role was to document the objects that were brought in to represent these experiences. Objects included: Teddys, comforters, blankets, umbilical cords, hair packets and clothing. The workshops were held in June 2023 and March 2024 culminating in a display of A1 images at the university as part of the IMISCOE PhD Summer School: Migration, Race and Inclusivity Conference (3-7 June, 2024).
